A worldwide folklore research project has become a collectible coin series.
An illustration project mapping the world's mythological creatures has become a limited-edition silver coin series. "World of Cryptids" combines NeoMam Studios' research, Laimutė Varkalaitė's art, and Lithuanian Mint's craftsmanship.
The project started at NeoMam Studios, where researchers identified key mythological beings from each country. Varkalaitė then created 125 character illustrations, earning top recognition at the 2021 ADC Awards.
Lithuanian Mint saw the potential to turn these digital designs into physical collectibles. They selected 12 creatures for a series of one-ounce silver coins, released monthly through 2023. From Baba Yaga to Yeti, each coin is limited to 1,000 pieces.
The mint preserves each illustration's detail through high-relief minting and antique finish. Collectors can store their coins in a specially designed book that doubles as a world map of mythological creatures.
The series marks a rare transition from a digital art research project to a physical collector's item, bringing global folklore to numismatic collectors.
